Spores are supplied in sterile aqueous solution using 10 ml Luer-Lok syringes. One 40 mm 16ga needle is provided for each spore-filled syringe.
Psilocybe natalensis aff. / Psilocybe ochraceocentrata nom. prov. is the most important exotic Psilocybe entries in the Sporeworks.EU catalog. This material traces back to Natal, South Africa, with original material associated with KwaZulu-Natal and nearby Royal Natal National Park collections. It resembles Psilocybe cubensis in broad morphology, but current taxonomy places the circulating aff. natalensis / ochraceocentrata material outside cubensis genus.
It quickly became very popular variety because of its adaptability and same growth parameters as cubensis.
Habitat: grassland and enriched soils
Climate: subtropical
Origin: Natal, South Africa
Cap: up to 50 mm in diameter, obtusely conic and expanding to broadly convex with age, occasionally with a small umbo. Yellowish toward the disc, whitish overall, not hygrophanous and often bluish tinged along the margin. Surface smooth to irregular in places.
Stem: 40–120 mm long and 2–10 mm thick. Smooth, silky white, straight to curved and enlarged near the base. Bruising bluish green where injured, particularly near the base. Partial veil scant to absent, not leaving persistent veil remnants.
Gills: attachment bluntly adnate to subdecurrent with age. Buff at first, then dark purplish brown with white margins.
Spores: dark purplish brown, broadly ellipsoid, around 13 × 8 micrometers on 4-spored basidia, though 1-, 2- and 3-spored basidia have also been observed.
This material was historically circulated as Psilocybe natalensis. The holotype sequence of P. natalensis does not appear to match the material widely circulating under that name, so Sporeworks amended the name to Psilocybe aff. natalensis. The “aff.” designation is used for material closely related to an existing species but not yet formally settled under that name. Recent phylogenetic work has provisionally described the circulating aff. natalensis material as Psilocybe ochraceocentrata nom. prov.
For the same material in print format, see the Psilocybe natalensis aff. / ochraceocentrata spore print.
For additional context on the current naming discussion, see the Psilocybe natalensis and Psilocybe ochraceocentrata reference article.
